He opted to remain in Germany despite a verbal commitment to play at the University of New Hampshire. He scored 34 points (seven goals, 27 assists) in 41 games with Mannheim in 2019-20, and the Ottawa Senators chose him with the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. The Senators used the pick they acquired in the trade that sent defenseman Erik Karlsson to the San Jose Sharks on Sept. 13, 2018.
Stutzle has played in 29 games this year with 5 goals and 10 assists for 15 points. I personally played with a few of his youth coaches in Germany, Krefeld’s Elmar Schmitz and Jay Luknowsky.
