Jim Thomson played his junior Hockey career with the Toronto Marlboros in the early 80’s, while he never had great production he made up for it in getting 190 PIMS in his last two seasons there.
That was enough for him to be drafted in the 9th round by the Washington Capitals in 1984. After spending most of his career in the AHL, Thomson’s first full NHL season came in the 1991-1992 with the Los Angeles Kings, where he served as Gretzky’s protector. After a hard-fought career, Thomson would retire as a member of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim after the 1993-1994 season.
